Your Photo's Security

Now, let's talk about your photos' security.

We are all informed that the Internet is a very treacherous place for everyone, especially, for our photos and other software. They can be corrupted and stolen from you. So,  if you're asking me how to protect your photos and other work of technology against the Internet, just keep on reading.

There are some ways to secure your photos from the Internet, these are:

  • You can explore the privacy settings of every website that you use/post your pictures on. Some website invades your privacy if you didn't "private" them.  (Private is a term used to determine the kind of privacy that's just for yourself or what we call "for your eyes only") Some websites like Facebook are actually looking into your pictures' information or sometimes called " metadata ". The source didn't reveal if they are stealing it or just reviewing it for the content reviewing.
  • You can also protect your photos by putting a logo or watermark of your own name or your brand. You can use Photoshop for making that.
  • You can also protect your photo by doing the "3-2-1 backup hack". In this hack, you need to upload your image in 3 different places, you also need to have it in 2 types of media, and the last one is, you need to keep a copy of it off-site or in your documents. This idea was from Peter Krogh a Photograph Analyst.
  • You can also use Carbonite.com, this website helps you backup your personal data to prevent loss. I discovered this website when my laptop needed repair, the repairman advised me to use this website to secure my files and avoid wide deletion.
  • There is also a thing called Jungle Disk that is very similar to Carbonite.

In my opinion, if you have a very, very important and private file or photo it's better to not post it on the Internet because we really cannot trust those privacy settings. But, if you really want/need to post it to the Internet, make sure to put any logo or watermark to the photo so that there's a sign that it's yours.
